1바울이 더베와 루스드라에도 이르매 거기 디모데라 하는 제자가 있으니 그 어머니는 믿는 유대 여자요 아버지는 헬라인이라

1He came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where a disciple named Timothy lived, whose mother was a Jewess and a believer, but whose father was a Greek.

2디모데는 루스드라와 이고니온에 있는 형제들에게 칭찬 받는 자니

2The brothers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him.

3바울이 그를 데리고 떠나고자 할새 그 지역에 있는 유대인으로 말미암아 그를 데려다가 할례를 행하니 이는 그 사람들이 그의 아버지는 헬라인인 줄 다 앎이러라

3Paul wanted to take him along on the journey, so he circumcised him because of the Jews who lived in that area, for they all knew that his father was a Greek.

4여러 성으로 다녀 갈 때에 예루살렘에 있는 사도와 장로들이 작정한 규례를 그들에게 주어 지키게 하니

4As they traveled from town to town, they delivered the decisions reached by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem for the people to obey.

5이에 여러 교회가 믿음이 더 굳건해지고 수가 날마다 늘어가니라

5So the churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers.

6성령이 아시아에서 말씀을 전하지 못하게 하시거늘 그들이 브루기아와 갈라디아 땅으로 다녀가

6Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia.

7무시아 앞에 이르러 비두니아로 가고자 애쓰되 예수의 영이 허락하지 아니하시는지라

7When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to.

8무시아를 지나 드로아로 내려갔는데

8So they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas.

9밤에 환상이 바울에게 보이니 마게도냐 사람 하나가 서서 그에게 청하여 이르되 마게도냐로 건너와서 우리를 도우라 하거늘

9During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him, 'Come over to Macedonia and help us.'

10바울이 그 환상을 보았을 때 우리가 곧 마게도냐로 떠나기를 힘쓰니 이는 하나님이 저 사람들에게 복음을 전하라고 우리를 부르신 줄로 인정함이러라

10After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.

11우리가 드로아에서 배로 떠나 사모드라게로 직행하여 이튿날 네압볼리로 가고

11From Troas we put out to sea and sailed straight for Samothrace, and the next day on to Neapolis.

12거기서 빌립보에 이르니 이는 마게도냐 지방의 첫 성이요 또 로마의 식민지라 이 성에서 수일을 유하다가

12From there we traveled to Philippi, a Roman colony and the leading city of that district of Macedonia. And we stayed there several days.

13안식일에 우리가 기도할 곳이 있을까 하여 문 밖 강가에 나가 거기 앉아서 모인 여자들에게 말하는데

13On the Sabbath we went outside the city gate to the river, where we expected to find a place of prayer. We sat down and began to speak to the women who had gathered there.

14두아디라 시에 있는 자색 옷감 장사로서 하나님을 섬기는 루디아라 하는 한 여자가 말을 듣고 있을 때 주께서 그 마음을 열어 바울의 말을 따르게 하신지라

14One of those listening was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul's message.

15그와 그 집이 다 세례를 받고 우리에게 청하여 이르되 만일 나를 주 믿는 자로 알거든 내 집에 들어와 유하라 하고 강권하여 머물게 하니라

15When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. 'If you consider me a believer in the Lord,' she said, 'come and stay at my house.' And she persuaded us.

16우리가 기도하는 곳에 가다가 점치는 귀신 들린 여종 하나를 만나니 점으로 그 주인들에게 큰 이익을 주는 자라

16Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling.

17그가 바울과 우리를 따라와 소리 질러 이르되 이 사람들은 지극히 높은 하나님의 종으로서 구원의 길을 너희에게 전하는 자라 하며

17This girl followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, 'These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.'

18이같이 여러 날을 하는지라 바울이 심히 괴로워하여 돌이켜 그 귀신에게 이르되 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 내가 네게 명하노니 그에게서 나오라 하니 귀신이 즉시 나오니라

18She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so troubled that he turned around and said to the spirit, 'In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!' At that moment the spirit left her.

19여종의 주인들은 자기 수익의 소망이 끊어진 것을 보고 바울과 실라를 붙잡아 장터로 관리들에게 끌어 갔다가

19When the owners of the slave girl realized that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to face the authorities.

20상관들 앞에 데리고 가서 말하되 이 사람들이 유대인인데 우리 성을 심히 요란하게 하여

20They brought them before the magistrates and said, 'These men are Jews, and are throwing our city into an uproar

21로마 사람인 우리가 받지도 못하고 행하지도 못할 풍속을 전한다 하거늘

21by advocating customs unlawful for us Romans to accept or practice.'

22무리가 일제히 일어나 고발하니 상관들이 옷을 찢어 벗기고 매로 치라 하여

22The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten.

23많이 친 후에 옥에 가두고 간수에게 명하여 든든히 지키라 하니

23After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully.

24그가 이러한 명령을 받아 그들을 깊은 옥에 가두고 그 발을 차꼬에 든든히 채웠더니

24Upon receiving such orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.

25한밤중에 바울과 실라가 기도하고 하나님을 찬송하매 죄수들이 듣더라

25About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.

26이에 갑자기 큰 지진이 나서 옥터가 움직이고 문이 곧 다 열리며 모든 사람의 매인 것이 다 벗어진지라

26Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everybody's chains came loose.

27간수가 자다가 깨어 옥문들이 열린 것을 보고 죄수들이 도망한 줄 생각하고 칼을 빼어 자결하려 하거늘

27The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped.

28바울이 크게 소리 질러 이르되 네 몸을 상하지 말라 우리가 다 여기 있노라 하니

28But Paul shouted, "Don't harm yourself! We are all here!"

29간수가 등불을 달라고 하며 뛰어 들어가 무서워 떨며 바울과 실라 앞에 엎드리고

29The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas.

30그들을 데리고 나가 이르되 선생들이여 내가 어떻게 하여야 구원을 받으리이까 하거늘

30He then brought them out and asked, 'Sirs, what must I do to be saved?'

31이르되 주 예수를 믿으라 그리하면 너와 네 집이 구원을 받으리라 하고

31They replied, 'Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved-you and your household.'

32주의 말씀을 그 사람과 그 집에 있는 모든 사람에게 전하더라

32Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house.

33그 밤 그 시각에 간수가 그들을 데려다가 그 맞은 자리를 씻어 주고 자기와 그 온 가족이 다 세례를 받은 후

33At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his family were baptized.

34그들을 데리고 자기 집에 올라가서 음식을 차려 주고 그와 온 집안이 하나님을 믿으므로 크게 기뻐하니라

34The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God-he and his whole family.

35날이 새매 상관들이 부하를 보내어 이 사람들을 놓으라 하니

35When it was daylight, the magistrates sent their officers to the jailer with the order: 'Release those men.'

36간수가 그 말대로 바울에게 말하되 상관들이 사람을 보내어 너희를 놓으라 하였으니 이제는 나가서 평안히 가라 하거늘

36The jailer told Paul, 'The magistrates have ordered that you and Silas be released. Now you can leave. Go in peace.'

37바울이 이르되 로마 사람인 우리를 죄도 정하지 아니하고 공중 앞에서 때리고 옥에 가두었다가 이제는 가만히 내보내고자 하느냐 아니라 그들이 친히 와서 우리를 데리고 나가야 하리라 한대

37But Paul said to the officers: 'They beat us publicly without a trial, even though we are Roman citizens, and threw us into prison. And now do they want to get rid of us quietly? No! Let them come themselves and escort us out.'

38부하들이 이 말을 상관들에게 보고하니 그들이 로마 사람이라 하는 말을 듣고 두려워하여

38The officers reported this to the magistrates, and when they heard that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens, they were alarmed.

39와서 권하여 데리고 나가 그 성에서 떠나기를 청하니

39They came to appease them and escorted them from the prison, requesting them to leave the city.

40두 사람이 옥에서 나와 루디아의 집에 들어가서 형제들을 만나 보고 위로하고 가니라

40After Paul and Silas came out of the prison, they went to Lydia's house, where they met with the brothers and encouraged them. Then they left.
