1그런데 아나니아라는 사람이 그의 아내 삽비라와 함께 소유를 팔아서,

1Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property.

2그 값의 얼마를 따로 떼어놓았는데, 그의 아내도 이것을 알고 있었다. 그는 떼어놓고 난 나머지를 가져다가, 사도들의 발 앞에 놓았다.

2With his wife's full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles' feet.

3그 때에 베드로가 이렇게 말하였다. "아나니아는 들으시오. 어찌하여 그대의 마음이 사탄에게 홀려서, 그대가 성령을 속이고 땅 값의 얼마를 몰래 떼어놓았소?

3Then Peter said, 'Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?

4그 땅은 팔리기 전에도 그대의 것이 아니었소? 또 팔린 뒤에도 그대 마음대로 할 수 있었던 것이 아니었소? 그런데 어찌하여 이런 일을 할 마음을 먹었소? 그대는 사람을 속인 것이 아니라 하나님을 속인 것이오."

4Didn't it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn't the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied to men but to God."

5아나니아는 이 말을 듣고, 그 자리에서 쓰러져서 숨졌다. 이 소문을 듣는 사람은 모두 크게 두려워하였다.

5When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened.

6젊은이들이 일어나, 그 시체를 싸서 메고 나가서, 장사를 지냈다.

6Then the young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him.

7세 시간쯤 지나서, 아나니아의 아내가 그 동안에 일어난 일을 알지 못하고 들어왔다.

7About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.

8베드로가 그 여자에게 물었다. "그대들이 판 땅값이 이것뿐이오? 어디 말해 보시오." 그 여자가 대답하였다. "예, 그것뿐입니다."

8Peter asked her, 'Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?' 'Yes,' she said, 'that is the price.'

9베드로가 그 여자에게 말하였다. "왜 그대들 내외는 서로 공모해서 주님의 영을 시험하려고 하였소? 보시오. 그대의 남편을 묻은 사람들의 발이 막 문에 다다랐으니, 그들이 또 그대를 메고 나갈 것이오."

9Peter said to her, 'How could you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.'

10그러자 그 여자는 그 자리에서 베드로의 발 앞에 쓰러져서 숨졌다. 젊은이들이 들어와서, 그 여자가 죽은 것을 보고서, 메어다가 그 남편 곁에 묻었다.

10At that moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband.

11온 교회와 이 사건을 듣는 사람들은, 모두 크게 두려워하였다.

11Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.

12사도들의 손을 거쳐서 많은 표징과 놀라운 일이 백성 가운데서 일어났다. 그들은 모두 한 마음이 되어서, 솔로몬 행각에 모이곤 하였다.

12The apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders among the people. And all the believers used to meet together in Solomon's Colonnade.

13다른 사람들은 누구 하나, 감히 그들의 모임에 끼여들지 못하였다. 그러나 백성은 그들을 칭찬하였다.

13No one else dared join them, even though they were highly regarded by the people.

14믿는 사람들이 더욱 늘어나면서, 주님께로 나아오니, 남녀 신도들이 큰 무리를 이루게 되었다.

14Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number.

15심지어는 병든 사람들을 거리로 메고 나가서, 침상이나 깔자리에 눕혀 놓고, 베드로가 지나갈 때에, 그 그림자라도 그들 가운데 누구에게 덮이기를 바랐다.

15As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter's shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by.

16또 예루살렘 근방의 여러 동네에 사는 많은 사람들이 병든 사람들과 악한 귀신에게 시달리는 사람들을 데리고 모여들었는데, 그들은 모두 고침을 받았다.

16Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by evil spirits, and all of them were healed.

17대제사장과 그의 지지자들인 사두개파 사람들이 모두 시기심이 가득 차서 들고일어나,

17Then the high priest and all his associates, who were members of the party of the Sadducees, were filled with jealousy.

18사도들을 잡아다가 옥에 가두었다.

18They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail.

19그런데 밤에 주님의 천사가 감옥 문을 열고, 그들을 데리고 나와서 말하기를,

19But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out.

20"가서, 성전에 서서, 이 생명의 말씀을 남김없이 백성에게 전하여라!" 하였다.

20'Go, stand in the temple courts,' he said, 'and tell the people the full message of this new life.'

21이 말을 듣고, 그들은 새벽에 성전에 들어가서 가르치고 있었다.그 때에 대제사장이 그와 함께 하는 사람들과 더불어 와서, 공의회와 이스라엘의 원로회를 소집하고, 감옥으로 사람을 보내어, 사도들을 데려오게 하였다.

21At daybreak they entered the temple courts, as they had been told, and began to teach the people. When the high priest and his associates arrived, they called together the Sanhedrin-the full assembly of the elders of Israel-and sent to the jail for the apostles.

22경비원들이 감옥에 가서 보니, 사도들이 감옥에 없었다. 그리하여 그들은 돌아와서, 이렇게 보고하였다.

22But on arriving at the jail, the officers did not find them there. So they went back and reported,

23"감옥 문은 아주 단단히 잠겨 있고, 문마다 간수가 서 있었는데, 문을 열어 보았더니, 안에는 아무도 없었습니다."

23'We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside.'

24성전 경비대장과 대제사장들이 이 말을 듣고서, 대체 이 일이 앞으로 어떻게 될까 하고, 사도들의 일로 당황하였다.

24On hearing this report, the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests were puzzled, wondering what would come of this.

25그 때에 어떤 사람이 와서, 그들에게 일렀다. "보십시오, 여러분이 옥에 가둔 그 사람들이 성전에 서서, 백성들을 가르치고 있습니다."

25Then someone came and said, 'Look! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple courts teaching the people.'

26그래서 경비대장이 경비대원들과 함께 가서, 사도들을 데리고 왔다. 그러나 그들은 백성들이 돌로 칠까봐 두려워서 폭력은 쓰지 않았다.

26At that, the captain went with his officers and brought the apostles. They did not use force, because they feared that the people would stone them.

27그들이 사도들을 데려다가 공의회 앞에 세우니, 대제사장이 신문하였다.

27Having brought the apostles, they made them appear before the Sanhedrin to be questioned by the high priest.

28"우리가 그대들에게 그 이름으로 가르치지 말라고 엄중히 명령하였소. 그런데도 그대들은 그대들의 가르침을 온 예루살렘에 퍼뜨렸소. 그대들은 그 사람의 피에 대한 책임을 우리에게 씌우려 하고 있소."

28"We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name," he said. "Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man's blood."

29베드로와 사도들이 대답하였다. "사람에게 복종하는 것보다, 하나님께 복종하는 것이 마땅합니다.

29Peter and the other apostles replied: 'We must obey God rather than men!

30우리 조상들의 하나님은 여러분이 나무에 달아 죽인 예수를 살리셨습니다.

30The God of our fathers raised Jesus from the dead-whom you had killed by hanging him on a tree.

31하나님께서는 이분을 높이시어 자기 오른쪽에 앉히시고, 영도자와 구주로 삼으셔서, 이스라엘이 회개를 하고 죄 사함을 받게 하셨습니다.

31God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might give repentance and forgiveness of sins to Israel.

32우리는 이 모든 일의 증인이며, 하나님께서 자기에게 복종하는 사람들에게 주신 성령도 그러하십니다."

32We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.'

33그들은 이 말을 듣고 격분하여, 사도들을 죽이려고 하였다.

33When they heard this, they were furious and wanted to put them to death.

34그런데 율법 교사로서, 온 백성에게서 존경을 받는 가말리엘이라는 바리새파 사람이 의회 가운데서 일어나서, 사도들을 잠깐 밖으로 내보내게 한 뒤에,

34But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, who was honored by all the people, stood up in the Sanhedrin and ordered that the men be put outside for a little while.

35의회원들에게 이렇게 말하였다. "이스라엘 동포 여러분, 여러분은 이 사람들을 어떻게 다룰지 조심하십시오.

35Then he addressed them: 'Men of Israel, consider carefully what you intend to do to these men.

36이전에 드다가 일어나서, 자기를 위대한 인물이라고 선전하니, 약 사백 명이나 되는 사람들이 그를 따랐소. 그러나 그가 죽임을 당하니, 그를 따르던 사람들은 모두 다 흩어져 없어지고 말았소.

36Some time ago Theudas appeared, claiming to be somebody, and about four hundred men rallied to him. He was killed, all his followers were dispersed, and it all came to nothing.

37그 뒤에 인구 조사를 할 때에, 갈릴리 사람 유다가 일어나 백성들을 꾀어서, 자기를 뒤따라 반란을 일으키게 한 일이 있소. 그도 죽으니, 그를 따르던 사람들은 다 흩어지고 말았소.

37After him, Judas the Galilean appeared in the days of the census and led a band of people in revolt. He too was killed, and all his followers were scattered.

38그래서 지금 내가 여러분에게 말씀드리는 바는 이것이오. 이 사람들에게서 손을 떼고, 이들을 그대로 내버려 두시오. 이 사람들의 이 계획이나 활동이 사람에게서 난 것이면 망할 것이요,

38Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail.

39하나님에게서 난 것이면 여러분은 그것을 없애 버릴 수 없소. 도리어 여러분이 하나님을 대적하는 자가 될까봐 두렵소." 그들은 그의 말을 옳게 여겼다.

39But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.'

40그리하여 그들은 사도들을 불러다가 때린 뒤에, 예수의 이름으로 말하지 말라고 명령하고서 놓아 주었다.

40His speech persuaded them. They called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

41사도들은 예수의 이름 때문에 모욕을 당할 수 있는 자격을 얻게 된 것을 기뻐하면서, 공의회에서 물러나왔다.

41The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name.

42그들은 날마다 성전에서, 그리고 이집 저집에서 쉬지 않고 가르치고 예수가 그리스도임을 전하였다.

42Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.
