1사도들과 유대에 있는 신도들이, 이방 사람들도 하나님의 말씀을 받아들였다는 소식을 들었다.

1The apostles and the brothers throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God.

2그래서 베드로가 예루살렘에 올라왔을 때에, 할례를 받은 사람들이

2So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcised believers criticized him

3"당신은 할례를 받지 않은 사람들의 집에 들어가서, 그들과 함께 음식을 먹은 사람이오" 하고 그를 나무랐다.

3and said, 'You went into the house of uncircumcised men and ate with them.'

4이에 베드로가 그 사이에 일어난 일을 차례대로 그들에게 설명하였다.

4Peter began and explained everything to them precisely as it had happened:

5"내가 욥바 성에서 기도를 하고 있었습니다. 그 때에 나는 황홀경 가운데서 환상을 보았는데, 큰 보자기와 같은 그릇이, 네 귀퉁이가 끈에 매달려서 하늘에서 드리워져 내려서 내 앞에까지 왔습니다.

5'I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision. I saw something like a large sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to where I was.

6그 안을 자세히 들여다보니, 땅 위의 네 발 짐승들과 들짐승들과 기어다니는 것들과 공중의 새들이 있었습니다.

6I looked into it and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles, and birds of the air.

7그리고 '베드로야, 일어나서 잡아먹어라' 하는 음성이 내게 들려왔습니다.

7Then I heard a voice telling me, 'Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.'

8그래서 나는 '주님, 절대로 그럴 수 없습니다. 나는 속된 것이나, 정결하지 않은 것을 먹은 일이 없습니다' 하고 말하였습니다.

8"I replied, 'Surely not, Lord! Nothing impure or unclean has ever entered my mouth.'

9그랬더니 '하나님께서 깨끗하게 하신 것을 속되다고 하지 말아라' 하는 음성이 두 번째로 하늘에서 들려왔습니다.

9"The voice spoke from heaven a second time, 'Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.'

10이런 일이 세 번 일어났습니다. 그리고서 모든 것은 다시 하늘로 들려 올라갔습니다.

10This happened three times, and then it was all pulled up to heaven again.

11바로 그 때에 사람들 셋이 우리가 묵고 있는 집에 도착하였는데, 그들은 가이사랴에서 내게 보낸 사람들이었습니다.

11'Right then three men who had been sent to me from Caesarea stopped at the house where I was staying.

12성령이 내게, 의심하지 말고 그들과 함께 가라고 하셨습니다. 그래서 이 여섯 형제도 나와 함께 가서, 우리는 그 사람의 집으로 들어갔습니다.

12The Spirit told me to have no hesitation about going with them. These six brothers also went with me, and we entered the man's house.

13그 사람은, 자기가 천사를 본 이야기를 우리에게 해주었습니다. 곧 천사가 그의 집에 와서 서더니, 그에게 말하기를 '욥바로 사람을 보내어, 베드로라고도 하는 시몬을 불러오너라.

13He told us how he had seen an angel appear in his house and say, 'Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter.

14그가 네게 너와 네 온 집안이 구원을 받을 말씀을 일러줄 것이다' 하더라는 것입니다.

14He will bring you a message through which you and all your household will be saved.'

15내가 말을 하기 시작하니, 성령이 처음에 우리에게 내리시던 것과 같이, 그들에게도 내리셨습니다.

15'As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning.

16그 때에 나는 '요한은 물로 세례를 주었지만, 너희는 성령으로 세례를 받을 것이다' 하신 주님의 말씀이 생각났습니다.

16Then I remembered what the Lord had said: 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'

17그러므로 하나님께서는, 우리가 주 예수 그리스도를 믿을 때에 우리에게 주신 것과 같은 선물을 그들에게 주셨는데, 내가 누구이기에 감히 하나님을 거역할 수 있겠습니까?"

17So if God gave them the same gift as he gave us, who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could oppose God?'

18이 말을 듣고 그들은 잠잠하였다. 그들은 하나님께 영광을 돌리고 "이제 하나님께서는, 이방 사람들에게도 회개하여 생명에 이르는 길을 열어 주셨다" 하고 말하였다.

18When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, 'So then, God has granted even the Gentiles repentance unto life.'

19스데반에게 가해진 박해 때문에 흩어진 사람들이 페니키아와 키프로스와 안디옥까지 가서, 유대 사람들에게만 말씀을 전하였다.

19Now those who had been scattered by the persecution in connection with Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch, telling the message only to Jews.

20그런데 그들 가운데는 키프로스 사람과 구레네 사람 몇이 있었는데, 그들은 안디옥에 이르러서, 그리스 사람들에게도 말을 하여 주 예수를 전하였다.

20Some of them, however, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also, telling them the good news about the Lord Jesus.

21주님의 손이 그들과 함께 하시니, 수많은 사람이 믿고 주님께로 돌아왔다.

21The Lord's hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord.

22예루살렘 교회가 이 소식을 듣고서, 바나바를 안디옥으로 보냈다.

22News of this reached the ears of the church at Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch.

23바나바가 가서, 하나님의 은혜가 내린 것을 보고 기뻐하였고, 모든 사람에게 굳센 마음으로 주님을 의지하라고 권하였다.

23When he arrived and saw the evidence of the grace of God, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts.

24바나바는 착한 사람이요, 성령과 믿음이 충만한 사람이었다. 그래서 많은 사람이 주님께로 나아왔다.

24He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord.

25바나바는 사울을 찾으려고 다소로 가서,

25Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul,

26그를 만나 안디옥으로 데려왔다. 두 사람은 일 년 동안 줄곧 거기에 머물면서, 교회에서 모임을 가지고, 많은 사람을 가르쳤다. 제자들은 안디옥에서 처음으로 '그리스도인'이라고 불리었다.

26and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.

27그 무렵에 예언자 몇이 예루살렘에서 안디옥에 내려왔다.

27During this time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.

28그 가운데 아가보라는 사람이 성령의 감동을 받아서, 일어나, 온 세계에 큰 기근이 들 것이라고 예언하였다. 바로 그 기근이 글라우디오 황제 때에 들었다.

28One of them, named Agabus, stood up and through the Spirit predicted that a severe famine would spread over the entire Roman world. (This happened during the reign of Claudius.)

29그래서 제자들은 각각 자기 형편에 따라 몫을 정하여, 유대에 사는 신도들에게 구제금을 보내기로 결정하였다.

29The disciples, each according to his ability, decided to provide help for the brothers living in Judea.

30그들은 그대로 실행해서, 바나바와 사울 편에 그것을 장로들에게 보냈다.

30This they did, sending their gift to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.
